Adding images

In JungleMail you can either add a picture by embedding it directly into the email content or hosting it externally and linking to it. However, there are benefits to choosing one method over the other. In this tutorial, you will learn what those advantages are.

Linked images

Perhaps you have noticed that almost all email newsletters you get do not embed images, but link them to an HTTP address instead. These, as you may know, get blocked by default in Outlook and in some other email clients. You can see what this looks like in the example below.

However, a big advantage of linked images is that they keep email size down because they do not travel with the email. You could see it like storing an image on a web page. The image, in this case, is located on an external source (web server or website) and downloaded into the message each time it is viewed by a recipient.

How to use linked images in JungleMail

In JungleMail you can insert a public image URL in the Image block settings: The linked image is then referenced in the source of the email using its respective web URL:

<img src="http://www.enovapoint.com/Assets/JungleMail/SimpleLetterTemplate-Logo.png">

Embedded images

If you want images to appear without recipients having to click a "Click here to download pictures" button, you should opt to use image embedding. This is when an image is attached to an email and referenced using a Content-ID.

Embedded images referenced in the source of an email use the content-id ( cid ):

<img src="cid:5de97473-f949-4735-a8bc-43378fea1636">

By default, image embedding is not enabled in JungleMail. To enable image embedding:

1. Click on the gear icon and select  Settings. The same page opens if you go to your site's settings and select EnovaPoint JungleMail Settings.

2. Check the Enable image embedding into email content box and save the settings.

Note: while the practice of embedding images within the message provides a better user experience than linking to externally hosted images, image embedding increases the size of emails. This is especially true if you use more than one image. Sending performance will also be affected by this.

Using Image Gallery

Enable image embedding if you are using the JungleMail Image Gallery to save and use images in your email campaigns and for sending newsletters to external recipients. As images in the gallery are being saved in the JungleMail Assets library on your Site Collection's root site, they are consequently set according to your default AAM address, which usually is Internal. However, if you use JungleMail for internal communication inside your LAN, these images could be linked (i.e., not embedded), too.

Adding background images

In JungleMail you can add a background image to a section. Please note that not all email clients support background images. The section background color will be used instead in this case. Make sure it works well with your content.

To add a background image to a section:

1. Select a section, go to the Style tab and switch the Background Image toggle to On.

2. Click Browse and select the image you want to add to the background. Check the boxes below if you need to make further adjustments to image style.
